The largest living reptile, the saltwater crocodile is a formidable apex predator that can grow to be over 20 feet long and weigh 2,600 pounds. They can be found along the coast of the Bay of Bengal, the northern coast of Australia, and the many islands in between the two.
Saltwater crocodiles are actually much more intelligent than most people give them credit for. Not only do they communicate with one another and their offspring, but they are able to analyze patterns. For example, saltwater crocodiles sometimes spend a few days observing their prey, including when it sleeps, when it comes to the water to drink, and so on. They then use this information to determine the best time to attack.
